Product Description

Fenugreek is native to India, Northern Africa and the Mediterranean. Fenugreek was used in ancient times to cover the smell of spoiled hay and was referred to as "Greek hay." Fenugreek grows as tall as three feet and produces bitter seeds. Fenugreek seeds are very bitter in taste and although fenugreek can be consumed through a tea or tincture, most prefer to consume fenugreek in capsule form due to the taste. These seeds haves been used traditionally for centuries to treat countless ailments and conditions such as erectile dysfunction, respiratory conditions, upset stomach, burns and inadequate breast milk supply. Fenugreek is also exceptionally high in fiber and can be used as a natural method to regulate bowel movements.

Breast milk production

Fenugreek is most well-known for its ability to increase a woman's milk supply while breastfeeding. Fenugreek is a powerful galactologue, or substance that promotes healthy milk supply and has been used for centuries to treat low milk supply in breastfeeding women. Fenugreek contains a substance known as diosgenin, which is used by scientists to produce synthetic estrogens. Diosgenin in its most natural form, such as how it is found in fenugreek, helps promote the growth of mammary cells in the breasts. Some studies have shown that breastfeeding women who use at least 500mg of fenugreek three times per day can see as much as a 500% increase in milk production as soon as 24 to 72 hours after the first dose. Some women, however, may take as long as 2 weeks to notice an effect.

Breast enlargement

Fenugreek has also been used as a natural way to enlarge the size of a woman's breast. Diosgenin helps promote the growth of mammary tissue in the breasts, resulting in large, firmer and fuller breasts. Fenugreek can be an excellent natural way to increase breast size without resorting to pharmaceuticals and plastic surgery. Unlike the rapid effect fenugreek can have on a woman's breast milk supply, it may take much longer to see results from fenugreek when using it to increase breast size.

Diabetes and high cholesterol management

Fenugreek can be especially helpful in regulating diabetes. Fenugreek contains a specific type of amino called 4-hydroxyisoleucine, which is believed to help regulate diabetes by increasing insulin production when blood sugar levels are too high. Fenugreek was also shown in animal studies to reduce cholesterol levels. The lowering in blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, however, was only seen in those with elevated levels. Individuals who consumed fenugreek with normal blood sugar and cholesterol levels did not see a reduction in levels.

Kidney stones and colon health

Fenugreek is believed to help reduce the amount of calcium oxalate found in the kidneys. Calcium oxalate is believed to contribute to the formation of kidney stones and by reducing the levels of calcium oxalate in the kidneys, kidney stones are less likely to develop. Fenugreek is also believed to reduce the risk of colon cancer by inhibiting the action of certain enzymes in the body.

Respiratory illness

Fenugreek can also be used to relieve dry, painful coughing and sore throats. Fenugreek helps encourage the expelling of mucous while simultaneously reducing the production of excess mucous, helping to relieve respiratory congestion. Individuals who suffer from asthma may also find that fenugreek may help alleviate the symptoms associated with asthma and reduce the intensity of symptoms when they occur.

Libido and reproductive concerns

Fenugreek is believed to improve the libido of both men and women but is believed to be especially effective in increasing male sex drive. Fenugreek can also be used to help alleviate the symptoms associated with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), and menstrual pain and discomfort. Fenugreek can also be used at the end of pregnancy to help stimulate contractions and induce labor.

Side effects and warnings

Fenugreek is a uterine stimulant and should not be used during pregnancy unless under the direction of a medical professional.
